Privacy policy

RockWatch exists to fix issues, not to collect data. This page explains, in plain words, what we hold and why.
What we collect
When you report an issue we collect the report itself: category, description, photo, location pin and the time it was sent.
If you create an account we also hold your name and email address so we can send you progress updates, plus your email preferences and a record of which notification emails we've sent you (used only to honour your choices and to enforce our own daily limit).
For safety and moderation, every report is linked to the account that sent it — including reports posted anonymously — and we record technical details such as the IP address it was submitted from. This information is visible only to RockWatch moderators, is never shown publicly, and is used solely to deal with abuse or false reports.
What is public
Reports are public so the whole community can see and support them: the title, category, location, photo and status.
Your name and contact details are never shown publicly and are never attached to a report on the map or in the feed.
How your data is used
Reports are public by design, so the whole community — including Gibraltar officials — can see and act on them.
We never sell your data, and we never use it for advertising.
Emails we send you
We send four kinds of email, and you control all of them: nearby issue alerts for places you've saved; a daily round-up of activity on your own reports; occasional “is this still an issue?” check-ins on reports of yours that are still open; and replies to messages you send us.
You can switch any of these off from your profile page, or from the link at the bottom of every email — no sign-in needed. Whatever you choose, we never send more than four notification emails to anyone in a day. Replies to messages you send us yourself are not optional in the same way: if you write to us, we'll write back.
We never sell or share your email address, and we never send advertising to it.
How long we keep it
Resolved reports stay public as a record of what the community has improved. You can ask for your reports or your account to be deleted at any time.
We never delete a report automatically. If nobody confirms an open report for a couple of months it is labelled “Needs confirmation” so the map stays honest — but it stays visible, stays searchable, and can be brought back with a single tap by anyone who walks past it.
Your rights
Under Gibraltar GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you. Reach us through the contact form on this site (topic "Privacy & data") and we'll respond within 30 days.
